This post is dedicated to Tn Hj Ahmad Zokri Daud or PAk Cik Shukri, a good friend of my father.
He passed away just recently, much to our surprise.
He's been a wonderful, long time neighbour to our family since 1981.
He (together with his wife) was our mengaji teacher since i was 6..
we used to go to his house for mengaji lessons every afternoon.
usually Mak Cik Zizah, his wife would ajar us mengaji.
but sometimes, if he got home from work early, some lucky' kids will get to mengaji with him.
why i said ''lucky" was because his nafas was panjang. usually if we read wrongly, we would have to repeat after him. so we had to follow his longer 'harakats!'. :) that made us gasping for breaths and looking for a suitable place to stop in the middle of the ayat...silap stop, repeat lagi! it's quite a good training for pernafasan. ha, mak cik Zizah is relatively more lenient.
the best part was if anyone managed to complete the whole quran, his family would organise majlis berkhatam & makan-makan for the kids...baik, kan...?
His family has been pillars of strength to especially to Melawati's Fasa 5 community for 30 ++ years. He used to work in some government agency related to Pendidikan. He taught Maths tuition at his house. I still remember his unique tick and X marks on my exercise books. he wasn't an ustaz but he loves ilmu. He was active in surau, helping with kelas fardhu ain, bilal, nikah kahwin, kenduri, ceramah, u name it.
A very caring neighbour and kind pak cik to all the kids who grew up there...i am sure the 2nd generation of the neighbourhood will feel the lost.
nowadays, susah kita nak jumpa " pakcik2" yg caring to children, yang really concerned on agama/kebajikan anak2 orang lain...we are all busy pursuing our individual goals..
I will miss Pak Cik shukri so much! May Allah bless his soul and place him in Jannah.
